The beginning of the end
Heads up, faithful journal followers! The eighth anniversary of my online "pregnancy" journal is coming up. To celebrate, I'm going to... stop keeping an online journal.
WHAT?!
Yep. This started off as a way to remember things about my pregnancy before I told anyone I was expecting. Then I kept it so that friends could follow Daphne's growing up and our work at Boys Town (which I'd anticipated lasting longer than 6 months; a nervous breakdown was clearly not in my expectations for that particular chapter of life).
When we moved to Washington, and then to Texas, it was just an efficient way to "talk" to people without bombarding them with e-mails. It was also a nice way to preserve some of the minutiae that might otherwise be lost over time.
However, two things are happening. The first is Facebook. So many of the people for whom I've kept this up are on Facebook, which is much more immediate and interactive. I don't hear from many of you who read this, but I'd love to. So I'm asking you to sign up with Facebook and send me a "friend" request so that this can be a two-way street, communication-wise.
Secondly, Daphne will soon be heading into puberty. Those foibles we all find so stinking adorable are going to be things she increasingly does not want broadcast to a wide range of people. I do plan to keep a running journal, updated much less frequently, with things she says or accomplishments she has. I'll put it all together for her one day, and she can treasure it or trash it and it'll all be good, as far as I'm concerned.
So, to review: If you read this and you don't have a Facebook account, PLEASE go over there and sign up NOW! You can click here to go!
