This might be Texas, but it's "creek," not "crick"
We've had a very nice, laid-back weekend so far.
Yesterday evening, Daphne, the dog, and I went on a little walk around the neighborhood. The ditch behind our property was full, so after we brought Kaley home (she doesn't walk well for long), we headed back to the ditch to see if D could catch any critters in the critter net she bought last week. Ken accompanied us that time. We walked down to the next street over, where the ditch goes under the road and becomes a little creek. As we were crossing the road, I saw a frog and a huge toad jumping off of their rock-in-the-sun perches and into the water. We hung out for a while, hoping to see more of them. They didn't resurface, but two fish came flopping sideways out of one of three under-road pipes to grab the algae Daphne was loosening with her bare toes. The water wasn't deep enough for the fish to swim upright, but they'd gotten flopping on their sides down to a science.
Ken came home after a while, but Daphne (and I) hung out until she'd caught both fish once in her net. She pulled them out with her hands, getting to hold them for a moment before throwing them back into the water. It was like magic for her.
All she talked about last night and this morning was going back down to "the creek." All three of us went back this morning. There were even more frogs this time, and Daphne saw them (whereas yesterday, I was the only eye witness). One jumped off of the bank as I passed, squeaking on his way to the water. We saw no fish this time, though. Daphne got brave today, too, and waded into the water. She ended up slipping a couple of times on the algae-covered rocks, falling sitting into the water. It was about 60 degrees outside, and I'm sure the water was as chilly. But she was a trooper.
We hung out reading and playing the rest of the afternoon. Then we drove down to McKinney to visit Nana and Pappy. We ordered pizza for them, then Ken and I went to On the Border for dinner together.
Tomorrow, we have nothing planned besides church, so that's nice! I don't sing again for two more weeks, and I haven't been in any of the videos nor have I made it to a planning meeting the past two weeks. It's been a nice little break. I enjoy doing that stuff, but it can get overwhelming when I'm going to the building 5 days a week!
I was going to upload pictures we took of D in the ditch today, but just realized I left my memory card in my parents' computer (when uploading pictures of their pizza for my report). I'll put them up Tuesday.
